Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety Therapy Even though most of our clients initially call us for problems with confidence it is not unusual to discover that it is actually anxiety that is behind their problem. Anxiety is a fear, worry or a feeling of being on edge. In many cases the person experiencing the anxiety will feel as if they are constantly worrying that something bad will happen. Sometimes this fear is about something specific such as speaking in public whilst others may not be able to put their finger on exactly what the problem is. Our Anxiety Therapy programs are designed to work with you to help discover what the underlying fear is and then to help you change your pattern of thinking. We work with an extensive range of anxiety categories including GAD, panic attacks as well as fears and phobias.*

What Causes Anxiety?

Anxiety is a form of defence mechanism where part of you resolves to keep you safe from something that may have scared you, upset you or embarrassed you in the past. The incident which started off your anxiety may have been something relatively small but if that first incident is compounded or happens at the wrong time or place it can have a huge impact on your later life. Here are just some reasons why you may be feeling anxious.

  • You had critical or demanding parents.
  • As a child there was conflict, rows and divorces in the family.
  • You may have experienced an embarrassing incident at a young age.
  • You may have become trapped somewhere scary.
  • At one point you may have become lost or separated from your family.
  • You were sent to boarding school and were scared.
  • At work you are under significant stress or have a bullying boss.
  • You have suffered an illness or been in hospital.
  • Substance Abuse.
  • You have experienced a traumatic life event.

You will notice that although some of the issues we mention above could be considered big problems others may be considered by an adult to be relatively minor. As a child however that event will have felt magnified which is why it can still create a significant impact. Many adults are totally unaware of where their anxiety has come from but part of your subconscious has never forgotten the original trauma and gives you feelings of anxiety to try and avoiding the event from occurring again. Anxiety Therapy can help you to overcome anxiety by giving you the tools and strategies to take back control.

Treatment for Anxiety with Therapy

At our clinics or during our online anxiety therapy sessions we use a number of methods to help our clients regain control of their anxiety. If you have a simple fear or a phobia then we may use Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques to help you to change your perception of the threat. We many use anxiety hypnosis to help you feel relaxed and calm and to help your visualise different outcomes. Hypnotherapy can also be helpful with retrieving the original incidents behind the problem so that new insights can be gained. In addition we may teach you mindfulness techniques to help stop the worrying and negative thinking about the future so that you can concentrate on the present.
