If you want to Overcome Social Anxiety fast then we have created a series of tips and strategies that can help you to overcome your fears and anxieties. Social Anxiety Disorder is a form of anxiety where you may feel extreme anxiety at the thought of others watching or judging you or challenging or critiquing your actions. Typically if you suffer from the anxiety you will avoid social situations, public speaking or doing anything that will draw attention to yourself. In most cases the problem will have begun in childhood and got steadily worse as you got older. This is simply because the more social situations are avoided the more scary them seem heightening your fears and worries.
Social Anxiety Treatment
We offer one to one therapy to help our clients overcome social anxiety but if you can’t come to our clinics then there are lots of things that you can do to overcome your fears. Here are just some of the ways that you can help yourself to address the problem.
Stop Avoiding Social Situations
Yes a social anxiety does make you fear being in public situations but the more you avoid the problem the bigger it becomes. A part of your mind is trying to warn you that social situations are dangerous or humiliating or embarrassing but that is not the reality. Yes at one point in your life you may have had a situation which made you feel like that but you certainly won’t have a problem every single time. Although facing your fears can seem scary and will heighten your anxiety initially you will find that within a short time the anxiety will lessen. If you continue to repeatedly challenge a social phobia the anxiety will reduce each time until eventually it no longer bothers you.
Have an Exposure Hierarchy
When you decide to exposure yourself to the issues that make you anxious start with the small stuff first before moving on to the most anxiety provoking. A great way of doing this is writing down all the situations which make you anxious and then grading them from the least worrying to the most frightening. By starting small and conquering the easier quick wins it becomes easier to move on to the bigger issues. This will also help to build your confidence levels.
Challenge Negative Thinking
Another facet of social anxiety is negative and critical self talk. You may find that a part of your mind thinks that you aren’t good enough, don’t look right, aren’t intelligent enough or will make a fool of yourself if you are in front of others. This negative self talk however is only being perpetuated because you pay attention to what it says. Start to challenge these thoughts and replace them with positive ones instead and then step outside of your comfort zone. When you do this and nothing bad happens you are starting to break down unhelpful thought patterns as they cannot be sustained when there is nothing to fear.
Be Relaxed
Anxiety can may you feel uptight and on edge. This leads to nerves, worries, muscle tension and at its extremes panic. Of course if you teach yourself to relax then the anxiety can start to dissipate. Self hypnosis is a great way of relaxing deeply and can be used to help you manage anxiety with regular practice. At our consultations we give all our clients hypnosis downloads to listen to between their sessions so that this can be practiced regularly. Once you have the hang of relaxing at home you can then start to use the same techniques when you are out and about. This can help you to feel calmer and more composed in situations which previously would have bothered you.
We know that not every client is able to come to see us for sessions so we have put together an online program which can help you to overcome anxiety fast. Consisting of five hypnosis downloads this pack teaches you how to manage everything from feelings of panic to worrying and negative thinking. This stop anxiety audio program can be purchased today in our online store.
Put Things Into Perspective
Anxiety at times can seem so frightening it feels as if there is a direct threat then and there that could significantly harm you. When you really start to look at your situation more rationally there is actually very little to be frightened of at all. When you were a child you probably had little control over bullies, horrible teachers or unhelpful criticism but as an adult that isn’t the case at all. If someone were to make an unhelpful comment now you have the power to stand up to them and put them in their place. Of course the reality is that this is highly unlikely to happen because as adults we know that we can’t get away with being nasty or mean without severe consequences. So understand that you are now really the person with all the power.
